Watercolour painting for me is a recent adventure. The decision to take lessons in watercolour since mid 2019, has been a rewarding one. Antoinette Blyth is an inspiring teacher. Im now a member of the Sherbrooke Art Society and the Watercolour Society of Victoria.
My first love of art and painting began in high school where trips to the National Gallery and inspiring teachers guided our learning. Monet and the impressionists left a huge impression on my approach to colour and brushstrokes when working with oil and water paints.
Membership at The Victorian Artists Society has allowed me to learn the tonal impressionist and tonal realist styles of painting. Over the last 7 years I have had painting and drawing lessons with Christine Wrest Smith, Ray Hewitt, Paul McDonald Smith and Stephen Doyle. Also a summer course of portraiture with Lee Machelak. VAS Paint Outs untutored.
I still find that my subject often dictates how I will approach it artistically - free and slightly abstract or in a very straight and tight manner. Enjoying studying the outdoor view, still life or photograph helps me to decide how best to decode it.
